Location is Everything

Los Angeles is a place like no other.

Living in Los Angeles is pretty great. As the second largest city in the U.S., it’s home to 3.9 million people with 18.7 million people living in the surrounding area.  Los Angeles is a melting pot of cultures and ideas and it has reason to be – a thriving Jewish community, great weather, and the perfect location make it an ideal place to learn and live.

  • Perfect Location
    • 20 minutes to the Beach, Beverly Hills or Hollywood!
    • AJU is accessible to all major Los Angeles attractions and sits directly across the street from the Skirball Cultural Center and the Getty Center, and we happen to be on the same block as one of the city’s largest synagogues, Stephen S. Wise.
    • Shopping – large indoor malls, outdoor shopping, outlet centers and the L.A. Garment District all a hip, skip and a drive away.
    • Restaurants – The Los Angeles food scene is on the move and mixing it up. From food trucks, to hipster lounges, kosher and vegan options, there is something for all taste buds.
  • Weather

Nothing beats wearing shorts in the middle of winter!  AJU is a place where you will love to be outside and can’t help but to smile when you feel the warm sun hit your face. With an average 329 days of sunshine, the weather is hard to beat.

  • Athletics

Los Angeles is home to every major professional sport there is and has many venues just a short drive from AJU. Los Angeles loves its sports teams, including:

    • Basketball – 2 NBA teams – Clippers and Lakers
    • Baseball – 2 MLB Teams – Dodgers and Angels
    • Soccer – MLS L.A. Galaxy
    • Hockey – 2 NHL Teams - Kings and Ducks
    • Football – Now home to the L.A. Rams and L.A. Chargers, Los Angeles is pleased to welcome back NFL football.
  • Amusement Parks

Los Angeles is home to world famous theme and amusement parks, each with a different personality. There is a whole menu to choose from all within a short drive from AJU:

    • Disneyland
    • Disney’s California Adventure
    • Universal Studios Hollywood
    • Knott’s Berry Farm
    • Six Flags Magic Mountain
    • Hurricane Harbor
    • Santa Monica Pier’s Pacific Park
    • For those willing to drive just a bit south, there’s also Lego Land and Sea World
  • Culture

Los Angeles is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse cities on the planet and has a myriad of ethnic enclaves.  People who live here come from 180 different countries and speak 140 different languages.

You can also catch major plays and musical productions at Pantages Theater, Ahmanson Theatre and Geffen Playhouse. Smaller theaters dot the city where you can see up-and-coming performers as well.

L.A. County is home to 100 museums and range from those that specialize in fine art to La Brea Tar Pits, where you can see fossilized bones.

  • Jewish Life

Los Angeles is geographically vast, and the opportunities for engaging in Jewish life run the spectrum. From synagogues to museums to kosher markets, there’s a bit of everything everywhere you look.

As one of the largest Jewish Communities in the world, Los Angeles has many Synagogues and Shuls to fit your specific requirements.  Every denomination is represented throughout the city, from Conservative, to Orthodox, to Reform, and everything in between, there are many choices that can meet your spiritual needs.

Let’s not forget the great Jewish neighborhoods in every part of this city such as Fairfax, Pico-Robertson, Encino, Valley village and that's just the beginning….

  • Day Trips Abound

There is no other city in reasonable driving distance to the beach and snow-capped mountains – ask any Angelino and they will all tell you about the day they skied in the morning and watched the sunset on the Pier in the evening. L.A. is also close to a ton of great fun – Catalina Island, Channel Islands Harbor, San Diego, SoCal Wine Country – they are all nearby!

  • Beaches

AJU students love to venture to the local beaches. Los Angeles beaches are perfect for running, walking, cycling, volleyball, surfing or rollerblading. Malibu Beach is great for celebrity sightings, Venice Beach for people watching and Manhattan Beach for surfing.

  • Night Life

Each neighborhood has its flavor of fun, from West Hollywood and The Sunset Strip to the recently revitalized Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA).

Music fans might get lucky and catch big, well-known bands playing smaller clubs on the Sunset Strip or at a larger venue. If you don’t catch your favorite band playing at a small club, most artists play L.A at venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, the Forum, or Staples Center.
