Prerequisite Note: Due to the virtual setting of this class, you must have computer capability, including internet access, in order to participate. A camera is also optimal but not required.
During the Medieval period of Jewish history, Jews found themselves living under Christian rulers in Europe and under Islamic rulers in the Near East. Christianity and Islam imposed very different restrictions on their Jewish communities.
In this class we will examine how each set of communities responded to these restrictions.
The Medieval period of Judaism is a rich and fascinating period in Jewish history. Join us for a class of interesting and lively discussions as we learn about the beginnings of Jewish philosophy, the rise of Kabbalah, the repercussions of the Crusades, the role of the dhimmi in Islamic lands and so much more.
If the student has not taken Part 1 or Part 2 but enrolls for Part 3, the student can email wcce [at] aju.edu to receive reading materials from Part 1 & 2.
