American Jewish University Welcomes Amy Latzer as Chief Operating Officer

American Jewish University (AJU) announces the appointment of Amy Latzer as its new Chief Operating Officer, a pivotal leader who will help power AJU’s mission to build a vibrant Jewish future—driving the operational excellence, innovation, and community engagement that make our work possible.

Latzer brings nearly two decades of executive leadership experience within complex, mission-driven organizations. She has a distinguished record of strengthening operations, modernizing systems, guiding teams through transformative growth, and aligning institutions around bold strategic priorities—skills that will be instrumental as AJU builds a dynamic, future-focused platform for Jewish life, learning, and leadership.

In her new position, Latzer will oversee all operational and administrative functions of the University, including finance, human resources, facilities and auxiliary services, financial aid, and oversight of the Brandeis-Bardin Campus. She will partner closely with AJU President Jay Sanderson and senior leadership to advance the University’s strategic goals, elevate organizational systems and culture, and support the implementation of AJU’s long-term vision.

Latzer will also serve as the staff liaison to the Audit, Facilities, Finance, and Investment Committees of the Board of Directors, ensuring strong communication, transparency, and fiduciary stewardship across AJU’s operations and assets.

Before joining AJU, Latzer served for nineteen years as the Chief Operating Officer of 211 LA, one of the country’s leading information and referral systems. During her tenure, she spearheaded major operational and technology modernizations, guided multimillion-dollar budgets, expanded community services, and forged strategic partnerships that strengthened organizational resilience and reach.

Widely respected for her collaborative leadership style, Latzer is known for bringing clarity during moments of change, aligning teams around shared purpose, and fostering strong, people-centered organizational cultures.

Her connection to AJU’s mission is also personal: her daughter attended Camp Alonim, AJU’s beloved summer camp, giving Latzer firsthand appreciation for the transformative impact of the Brandeis-Bardin Campus and the generations of community shaped there. This experience deepens her commitment to stewarding AJU’s operations with both strategic vision and heartfelt understanding of what this institution means to families across Los Angeles and beyond.
