Two Egyptian midwives join the Exodus in Maggie Anton’s bold new novel. Join her and Rabbi Fenton for a journey through history and Torah.

Join award-winning author Maggie Anton in conversation with AJU’s Rabbi Patricia Fenton for a captivating discussion about The Midwives’ Escape: From Egypt to Jericho, a bold new historical novel that breathes life into the biblical Exodus. Grounded in years of archaeological research and biblical scholarship, Anton’s latest work follows Asenet and Shifra—an Egyptian midwife and her apprentice—whose lives are upended by the tenth plague. As they flee Egypt with their family and a growing group of fellow travelers, they embark on a harrowing journey filled with love, loss, and resilience. Asenet and Shifra’s journey alongside the Israelites from slavery to Sinai to the edge of the Promised Land is both a gripping adventure and a profound tale of spiritual transformation.
