  • What does the application process involve?

    The first step is to fill out and submit the online application. Once we receive your application, we'll contact you to schedule a 20-30 minute interview (usually done over the phone). The next step is to have your recommenders each submit a recommendation which should be received before the date of your interview. Applicants will be notified of program acceptance within 1-2 months of their phone interview.

  • When is the application due?

    The Early Bird application deadline is March 18 for all applicants. The final deadline is May 6. Once the Early Bird deadline has passed, applicants will be accepted on a rolling admission basis as space allows. We encourage you to apply before the Early Bird deadline for the best chances of acceptance as the rolling admission process begins in December

  • How much does it cost?

    Due to the incredible generosity of Marilyn and Sigi Ziering and other supporters of BCI, we are able to offer BCI this summer at a regular cost of $750 for domestic participants and $300 for international participants. If you apply by the Early Bird deadline of March 18, the cost is only $400 for domestic participants/$300 for international participants AND we offer airfare subsidies.   • What do you mean by letters of recommendation?

    Two reference letters must be submitted in order to complete your application. Your references may be teachers, counselors, advisors, mentors, former BCI participants, rabbis, or Jewish professionals. Reference letters will not be accepted from relatives or close friends.

  • How do I get reimbursed for my airfare?

    When you are accepted, you will receive a form to fill out with our standard travel reimbursement amounts from your home airport to LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). BCI will guarantee the quoted reimbursement (we do not reimburse travel from Southern California). We do not reimburse for luggage fees or for other service fees, etc. We will also only issue one reimbursement check, based on the e-ticket invoice you send us before BCI. All airfare reimbursements will be distributed at the end of BCI by check (international applicants please see below). We require a complete e-ticket receipt of your total flight cost for reimbursement. No adjustments can be made after you arrive at BCI on June 25.   • When is payment due?

    Payment for the Early Bird deadline is due on April 16. When you are accepted, you will receive information about payment, which can be done online (Visa or Mastercard only), or by mailed check (made out to "The Marilyn and Sigi Ziering BCI"). The check should be mailed to:

  • What is the cancellation policy?

    These are the dates and amounts we will refund if you have to withdraw from BCI after paying:

    • Through May 1: Receive a 100% refund of your BCI tuition
    • May 2 - May 12: Receive a 50% refund of your BCI tuition
    • *No refunds will be given after May 12*
  • How much does BCI cost for international participants?

    If you apply by the Early Bird deadline of March 18, your BCI tuition is $300. Once you are accepted, we will provide you with a budget for your airfare based on your city of departure if you apply by the Early Bird deadline. Please note that we do NOT reimburse airfare for people who apply after the Early Bird deadline.

  • How do I get to BCI and back?

    Once you have been interviewed and accepted, we will research a fair/average price for your plane ticket. BCI will only reimburse up to that specified amount of your ticket. We do not reimburse for luggage fees or for other service fees, etc. Please note that flight reimbursements are given at the end of BCI. The exchange rate used will be calculated on the day you submit your FULL flight information to BCI. The exchange rates we use are based on live figures provided by Reimbursements are issued in the form of a check in US Dollars.   • How do I get a Visa?

    As soon as you apply to BCI we will supply a letter of support to help you get your Visa. Please note that this letter does NOT guarantee your acceptance to BCI. We send it out before you are actually accepted because the Visa process can take a long time, and you should get started as soon as possible in order to have your Visa if you are accepted.   • What if English is not my first language?

    While BCI is an international program, speaking and understanding English is a requirement for coming to BCI. All of our programs are conducted/led in English, and participants are expected to converse in English with each other in public spaces.
