Event Details
Do not have time to read an entire book? Join us each month to discuss literary short stories with our Sperber Librarian. This month: The Loudest Voice, by Grace Paley. This story is the first-person recollection of Shirley Abramowitz, a daughter of Jewish immigrants. As a bright an uninhibited child, she is excited to be picked to sing in her school's annual Christmas pageant. The decision to let her "loudest voice" be heard occasions debate and commentary throughout the entire Jewish community, some embracing assimilation while others firmly safeguard the integrity of their religious and ethnic identity. Contact the Sperber Library at 310-440-1264, or email Lisa Silverman at Lisa.Silvermanataju.edu to request that a copy of the story be sent to you!
