Event Details
Do not have time to read an entire book? Join us each month to discuss literary short stories with our Sperber Librarian. This month: Eli, The Fanatic, by Philip Roth. Written in 1959 at the beginning of his career, Roth's story focuses on the anxieties of the modern American Jew. Eli, a Jewish lawyer living in an upscale suburb, attempts to undermine the new yeshiva opened up in the neighborhood by a Holocaust survivor. Both farcical and an exploration of the phenomenon of fear, Roth's moral and political allegories remain shockingly relevant today. Contact the Sperber Library at 310-440-1264, or email Lisa Silverman at lisa.silvermanataju.edu to request that a copy of the story be sent to you!
