Event Details

In celebration of the Jewish State’s 70th birthday, Daniel Stein Kokin leads us through a musical journey exploring the creation and reception of seven iconic Israeli songs, one for each decade of the country’s existence: three myth makers, three myth breakers, and one which takes off in a new direction. We’ll listen to the original artists and watch film clips of their performances. How did Israel shape Israeli music? How has Israeli music changed Israel?

Daniel Stein Kokin is a Junior Professor for Jewish Literature and Culture, Theology Faculty, University of Greifswald; Greifswald, Germany and Visiting Assistant Professor, Near Eastern Literature and Culture; Y and S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies, UCLA
