Event Details

Since the 9th century, there has been an indigenous Jewish community in the city of Kaifeng, China. For centuries, they were separated from the rest of the world and over time became assimilated into Chinese culture. They were accepted as merchants, government officials and neighbors. Learn the history of the Chinese Jews and their status today.

About the Speakers

Dr. Jeffrey Herbst, President, AJU, will be providing the introductory remarks.

Professor Xu Xin, visiting from Nanjing, is the Diane and Guilford Glazer Chair Professor of Nanjing University, Director of the Glazer Institute for Jewish and Israel Studies, Nanjing University and President of the Chinese National Institute of Jewish Studies.
