Religious Freedom and the Rule of Law. Jewish, Christian, and Muslim Views on Practicing Religion in a Pluralistic Society

This series of interreligious trialogues will take a decidedly different approach. We will talk about religion – openly, candidly, and respectfully. Knowledgeable representatives of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam will share their views on topics of crucial importance to each religious tradition. The forums will afford an inside glimpse into each of the three religions, highlighting both similarities and differences.

Following each panel, audience members will be encouraged to ask questions and participate in the search for deeper understanding and practical solutions.

Two key principles of the American system of government are the freedom to practice one’s religion and the equality of all citizens under the law. But what happens when the two principles clash? The trialogue will discuss whether or not religious believers should be granted exemptions from certain legal obligations which are binding for everyone else.
