Event Details

Our popular documentary film and discussion series continues. Join us for a screening of Rosenwald. Share your thoughts about the film and enjoy some popcorn!

This documentary follows how Chicago philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, the son of a Jewish immigrant who rose to head Sears, partnered with Booker T. Washington to build 5,400 Southern schools in African American communities in the early 1900's Jim Crowe era. Rosenwald also built YMCA's and housing for African Americans to address the pressing needs of the Great Migration. Among those interviewed are civil rights leaders, Rosenwald school alumni, and family relatives.
