HEB 502 Introduction to Hebrew Grammar and Comprehension
Summer Intensive 2023

This 6-credit course is intended for students who are already proficient in reading and writing cursive Hebrew as well as have a basic understanding of Hebrew structure and vocabulary. The curriculum covers building skills in reading proficiency and comprehension, building vocabulary, as well as all the regular verbal stems (Binyanim), and emphasizes passive and active verbs. Using the Ha-yesod textbook, other skills will include an understanding of nouns, articles, conjunctions, pronouns, adjectives, possession, prepositions, the prefix and suffix conjugations, verb tenses, and overall sentence structure. This course is focused on mastering decoding, translation, and reading comprehension. Modern conversational Hebrew will not be covered in this course.

Admissions Requirements: Pre-requisite proficiency of Hebrew Letters and Vowels, cursive writing ability, and a basic vocabulary. This will be assessed with Rabbi Rosenbaum prior to beginning the course. If you are not a Ziegler student, please coordinate with Rabbi Rosenbaum (SRosenbaum [at] aju.edu) your entrance assessment.

Tuition: $2,000 (if entering Ziegler for the fall semester, $1000 of this cost can be credited to fall tuition account upon completion of the summer intensive)
