Yiddish Gone Into the Wild 9 - 9:45 am PDT

Join us for a virtual journey “Into the Wild,” through Yiddish stories, poetry and art, encountering old and new living landscapes, places of both individual possibility and alienation. Together we will travel from the dense Polish pine forests, to the myth- filled deserts of the land of Israel, to the vast wild-lands of the American west. No prior knowledge of Yiddish required.

This class is taught by Benny Ferdman, an artist and educator. His adventurous reclamation and reworking of Jewish iconography and Yiddish language has brought him residencies, commissions, and exhibitions, most recently at the Klezkanada Summer Retreat and the Ashkenaz Festival in Toronto. He is Co-Founder of the arts organization Creative Ways and was the founding arts director and artist-in-residence at deToledo High School. He presently teaches Yiddish language and culture classes at the Whizin Center at AJU.
