Book Release: Nicole Krauss Presents To Be a Man

Nicole Krauss is one of the most influential literary voices today. Her new release, To Be a Man, is a collection of short fiction and very likely her strongest work yet.

American Jewish University is please to invite you to the book launch for To Be a Man, where Nicole Krauss, a National Book Award finalist and New York Times best-selling author, will be in conversation with Rabbi Sherre Hirsch. Together, they will explore lessons learned, and discuss the struggle to understand what it means to be a man, what it means to be a woman, and how those struggles have connected the author to her own experiences in the world.

Nicole Krauss is the author of the novels Forest Dark, Great House, The History of Love, and Man Walks Into a Room. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s, Esquire, and The Best American Short Stories, and her books have been translated into more than 35 languages. She is currently the inaugural writer-in-residence at Columbia University’s Mind, Brain, and Behavior Institute. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Rabbi Sherre Hirsch is the Chief Innovation Officer for American Jewish University. Rabbi Hirsch made headlines as the first female rabbi at Sinai Temple, the largest Conservative congregation on the west coast. She served as Senior Rabbinic Scholar at Hillel International, where she created and developed Hillelwell, an initiative for Hillels worldwide to become the recognized address for preventative mental health. A thought leader on spirituality and religion, Rabbi Hirsch has appeared on the Today Show, ABC News, Extra, and PBS, among other outlets, and has been a contributor to Time.com, Oprah Magazine, the Jewish Journal, the Hollywood Journal, and more. She is the author of “Thresholds, How to Live Fearlessly and Regret Free” (featured in “Hot Type” in Vanity Fair), and “We Plan, God Laughs, What to do When Life Hits You Over the Head” (recognized on Amazon’s Top 100 List). Rabbi Hirsch was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
