Andrew Jackson University offers several specialized courses featuring subject matter centered around the concept of recovery. Each course for college credit can can be taken separately or as part of a certificate or degree program. Addiction treatment professionals may be able to achieve continuing education credits through these courses as well.
EN120 Composing Your Personal History - This course teaches you how to compose your life story by breaking it down in to achievable parts: getting started; remembering your life in segments and events, and compiling it, as well as by providing useful hints in creating your life's work. Students will examine their life in detail to the present, writing about what they've done, where they've been, and hopefully getting a feel for what they want to try next.
CM495 Topics in Communication II - Through researching 12 step philosophies, Rational Emotive Therapy, the ABC process, family systems, and relapse prevention as well as a variety of addictions, students will demonstrate their understanding of the role communication plays in the effective implementation of various types of therapy. Students will share personal experiences explaining how their interactions utilized effective listening strategies, self-concept, perception and interpersonal climate.
CJ451 Drugs - Use and Abuse - A study of drugs and drug-taking behavior including such topics as alcohol and other depressants, stimulants, tobacco addiction, psychedelics, marijuana, and over-the-counter or prescribed medicines.
CM458 Conflict Management - This course offers students techniques and skills to enhance their management of conflict. Emphasizing the need to build positive long-term relationships in the business world, students will investigate the theoretical and practical aspects of power, face-saving, conflict assessment, communication, and problem solving with regard to appropriate strategies, tactics, and goals in conflict resolution.
